Completed: August 2019
This one-of-a-kind live edge bench was created in San Francisco’s Sunset district, and is made from a beautiful slab of salvaged cedar and steel u-shaped legs. The grain of this piece has a lot of interesting details, with long continuous lines down the sides, and wavy, meandering lines in the center. The slab measures 1.5 inches thick, 51 inches long, and 15-16 inches wide.
Cedar Slab
This slab was salvaged from a yard in Half Moon Bay, CA, leveled with a router on a sled, and then sanded through six grits of sandpaper to a silky smooth feel. Once the sanding was done, it was finished with three coats of a high quality oil based wood finish and stabilizer, and one coat of hard wax. The oil and wax is made using only natural ingredients, is food safe (not that you’ll be eating off a bench), and solvent free, meaning it’s safe for everyone in your home.
U-Shaped Steel Legs
The u-shaped legs used for this bench were handcrafted from salvaged steel. The metal was sourced from a metal yard near Bonney Lake, Washington, and then forged and bent into these beautiful legs by the folks over at Csonka’s Custom Rustics. A clear coat was then applied to give them a modern but rustic look for their new home.
