This one-of-a-kind contemporary bench is made from a beautiful piece of salvaged Douglas Fir and steel u-shaped legs. This piece of Fir was quartersawn, giving it the sleek lines you see running its length. These lines, coupled with the u-shaped legs, give it a beautiful, contemporary style. Additionally, there are several knots that add to the unique look of this piece.
The piece of Fir measures 1.5 inches thick, 25 inches long, and 11 inches wide.
The Fir
This piece of Douglas Fir was pulled from a garbage heap destined for lesser futures, trimmed, and then sanded through eight grits of sandpaper to a silky smooth feel. Once the sanding was done, it was finished with three coats of a high quality oil based wood finish and stabilizer, and one coat of hard wax. The oil and wax is made using only natural ingredients, is food safe (not that you’ll be eating off a bench), and solvent free, meaning it’s safe for everyone in your home.
U-Shaped Steel Legs
The contemporary, rustic flat bar steel legs that were used for this piece were professionally handcrafted from American made steel, and cold bent using custom designed and fabricated tooling. Once complete, bowling alley wax was applied to help mitigate oxidation, and they were inspected to ensure item consistency.
