salvaged redwood live edge floating shelves
This is a collection of eight salvaged redwood live edge floating shelves that were cut from two long pieces I picked up at a mill in Half Moon Bay, CA. I like this mill because it only uses salvaged trees, and for the most part doesn’t source outside of 100 miles. Plus, they get some really nice stuff.
The shelves vary in size, from 1½ to 3½ feet, and vary in width. They also have different details; some of them have clean lines that run the length, and others have knots and curves in the grain. Scroll down for more details and to see all of the shelves.
There was a bit of a learning curve for me with these shelves. For this type of bracket you have to create a recess in the back of the shelf for the bracket to slide into so the shelf sits flush to the wall. This is a challenging task, one which I got better at it with each shelf I completed. BUT, I want to be up front and say that some of them came out a bit…ugly. You’ll never know it once the shelf is installed since it’s on the back, but I thought I should mention it.
The shelves were finished with a blend of natural oils and waxes to protect it and bring out the details of the wood. This finish is amazing! Not only does it make the wood look beautiful, it’s made in small batches of all natural ingredients taken from sustainable resources, is made without the use of toxic heavy metal dryers, chemical processing, petroleum distillates or bleaching, plus it’s biodegradable, and non-ozone depleting!
The mounting brackets for these shelves were made at a shop up in Washington from salvaged steel, and are very strong so they’ll have no issues supporting the shelves and what you put on them.
I’m really happy with how these shelves turned out, and hope you like them too.
Please note that there is some work required to install these shelves. The video below shows how to install them. All hardware is included in the purchase.
If you have any questions, or would like to see more pictures, feel free to reach out. If you’d like to buy one or multiple shelves please send me a message and include which you would like, and a few different days/times you’re available to come by. When you come to pick it up a mask is required, and social distancing rules will be followed as much as possible.
Cash only. Local pickup only. See below for sizes and prices.
Thanks for looking!
